About this objectEnglish/Scottish shilling, minted in 1954. On the obverse (heads), it depicts Elizabeth II (1926-2022), Queen of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth realms (1952-2022). It also includes the abbreviated Latin phrase: "+ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA" which translates to "Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God, Queen". On the reverse (tails) side it depicts either the crown with the Scottish shield or the crown with the English shield with the abbreviated Latin phrase "FID DEF" meaning "Defender of Faith", as well as ONE SHILLING and the year 1954.
