Name/TitlePiece of Cromarty communion token (1797)
About this objectCommunion tokens were widely used in the Presbyterian Churches of Scotland. Holy Communion was held in the parish church - Cromarty East Church - only once or twice a year. Parishioners would need to be approved by the elders of the church. Those showing adequate knowledge and thought to be living ‘upright’ lives received tokens which would be well looked after and viewed as symbols or badges of spirituality. They have written on "Cromy 1797".
