Name/TitleWilliam III, shilling (? Third bust 1697)

About this objectShiling, minted in 1697, third bust. On the obverse (heads), it depicts King William III (1650-1702) King of England, Scotland and Ireland (1689-1702), with a laureate and with downward hair which signifies that it's a third bust. Around the image is the Latin abbreviated phrase "GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA" which translates to "William the third, by the grace of God". On the reverse (tails) side, it depicts a Nassau lion and around them are four cruciform shields of England (Top), Scotland (right), France (bottom) and Ireland (left). Around the image is the Latin abbreviated Text"MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX 1697' which translates to "King of Great Britan, France and Ireland."
