About this objectSixpence, minted between 1816-1820. On the obverse (heads), it depicts King George III (1738-1820), King of Great Britain and Ireland (1760-1820) with a laurel wreath. Around the portrait is that Latin abbreviated Text"GEOR III D G BRITT REX FD" which translates to "George III, by the grace of God, King of Brittans, Defender of Faith". Below the portrait is the date. On the reverse (tail) side, it depicts a shield with a crown on top. In the shield, it is split into quadrants representing the United Kingdom at the time, with the top left representing England, top right, Scotland, bottom left Ireland and bottom right Wales which was still part of England at the time. In the middle of the shield there is another shield with a crown on top with the same motif as the larger shield. Around the shield on a belt there is abrivatated Latin "HONI SOIT Q MALY PENSE" which translates to "Shame on he who thinks of evil of it".
