Name/TitleCharles II, bawbee (1677-79)

About this objectBawbee, minted between 1677-1679. On the obverse (heads), it depicts a laureate bust of Charles II (1630-1685), who was King of England, Scotland and Ireland (1660-1685). It also includes the abbreviated Latin phrase "CAR II D G SCO AN FR ET HIB R" meaning "Charles the Second, by the Grace of God, King of Scotland, England, France and Ireland". On the reverse (tails) side, is a thistile with a crown above with the Latin abbrivation "NEMO ME IMPVNE LACESSET" meaning "No one shall hurt me with impunity".
