Name/TitleGeorge II, Irish halfpenny (1736-55)

About this objectIrish halfpenny, minted between 1736-1755. On the obverse (heads) side, it depicts a laurelled and left looking King George II (1683-1760), King of Great Britain and Ireland (1723-1760). Around the portrait is the abbreviated Latin "GEORGIUS II REX" which translates to "King George II". On the reverse (tails), it depicts the crown above a celtic harp. Around it is the Latin word "HIBERNIA" meaning "Ireland". Below the harp is the year it was minted.
