About this objectBritish penny minted in 1939. On the obverse (heads), it depicts George VI (1895-1952), King of the United Kingdom, British Dominion and Emperor of India (until 1947) from 1936-1952. It also includes the abbreviated Latin phrase: "GEORGVIS VI D G BR OMN: REX F D IND IMP:" which translates to "George VI by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India". On the reverse (tails) side it includes "ONE PENNY" and the date minted "1939", it also includes Britannia, the national personification of Britain.
