Name/TitleMilitary Black Sash with Pouch; CRMCH 2011.005

About this objectMilitary Black Sash with Pouch marked “Sentry”. Cromarty was greatly affected by both the First and Second World Wars. In both wars, the town acted as an important Naval base, with military camps, defences, airfields, practice trenches, ammunition stores, offices and other installations. The increased population of soldiers and sailors had a positive impact on the town's economy, helping to reverse some of the effects of the economic downturn of the 1840s.
